AI visual inspection: selecting spares in system context

An AI inspection announcement highlights why a spare-part enquiry needs interface details and software versions as well as a hardware reference.

The development

Siemens reports an expanded rollout of AI visual inspection developed with P&G. Visual Inspection Cockpit combines P&G models, Siemens Industrial Edge and industrial PCs with Nvidia GPUs, processing inspection results close to production equipment.

What it means for sourcing

Maintenance depends on the documented system configuration. A replacement camera or industrial PC needs to fit that configuration; a matching connector alone establishes neither device suitability nor application operation. Agree any driver, firmware or software changes with the person responsible for the installation.

Separate hardware requirements from software needs before sending an enquiry. The requirement may concern a physical replacement, a licence or an integrator service. DEAVA can process a component enquiry using complete references; approving and recommissioning the inspection application remains a technical task for the operator and integrator.

What to include in your enquiry

  • Complete device reference, serial number and hardware revision
  • Interfaces, power supply and mounting dimensions
  • Operating system, firmware and relevant software versions
  • Machine documentation, quantity and technical approval
