Changing metalworking fluid: the information an enquiry needs

A Blaser Swisslube application report provides a starting point for organising product identification, machine data and checks for a coolant enquiry.

The development

Blaser Swisslube reports that Henke introduced B-Cool Motec 501 across 24 machines after a trial lasting about a year. The manufacturer describes it as a mineral-oil-based, water-miscible metalworking fluid. These are reported experiences at one site, not a general approval for substitution.

What it means for sourcing

Start the enquiry by distinguishing a repeat order from a proposed change that needs technical assessment. For a repeat order, include a readable container label, the complete product name, any existing order code, pack size and required quantity. A product name alone does not establish the order code for a particular container.

For a changeover, the responsible team should assemble workpiece materials, machining operations, machine approvals and operating records. Water quality, the current mixing ratio, filtration and tank volume are useful details. Request current technical and safety data sheets for the destination country. Agree cleaning, trial scope and approval within a changeover plan; another site's application report cannot replace that assessment. DEAVA can use this documentation to clarify the sourcing enquiry.
