Robot benchmarks: what they mean for spare-parts planning
Measurable operating conditions also help plan spares. Turn a technical assessment into a more precise component enquiry.
The development
In May 2026, Fraunhofer IPA presented an assessment approach for humanoid robots. It examines aspects including energy efficiency, cleanroom suitability and safety, with the aim of helping compare robots for specific industrial applications.
What it means for sourcing
Spare-parts planning benefits from recording the real application. A sensor on a stationary fixture and a similar sensor on a moving robot axis may require different cables, mounting arrangements and environmental specifications.
A spares list should identify the approved configuration and installation location. When a product generation changes, also record its interface, software version and drawing revision. A sourcing enquiry is neither a machine risk assessment nor technical approval for substitution.
What to include in your enquiry
- Manufacturer, reference and approved revision
- Installation location and operating environment
- Interface, cable and mechanical mounting
- Existing approval documents and required quantity
