Photograph the complete code, measuring length and axis identification. Check TTL versus 1 Vpp output and reference marks separately. Resolution and accuracy grade are different characteristics. Record the pinout, cable length and mounting distances; a mechanically similar scale may be electrically unsuitable. When replacing only the reader head, confirm its match to the scale.
