For AFM probes record operating mode, holder, tip material, spring constant and existing reference; nominal properties do not replace the complete probe identification. For optical profilers specify objective, magnification, working distance and travel range. Describe sample dimensions, surface slope, reflectivity and the quantity to be measured. Distinguish scanner, positioning stage, objective and consumable probe in a replacement enquiry. Check interfaces and supported modes before substitution. Results from different measurement methods require evaluation; include required reference standards and calibration documentation.
